Lyrics

Must Have Been

I must have been a fool or a king

I must have tried everything

But my muse wouldn’t sing

You’re either out of luck or you aren’t

Hasty decisions cause much more harm

Whistle songs of change, pull false alarms

I must have been a thief or saint

A patient man, you know I ain’t

Black and blue towns we’ll paint

I fly like birds in sand storms

Sling-shooters form angry swarms

Life of doubts, the newest norm

I must have been an agent of progress

Every time jealous hearts show distress

I just never know how to decompress

I must have been a what or a who

There’s no sense in arguing with you

I can’t get rid of the sticky residue

Saying sad but true

Ask how do you do

What happened to you

And I walk in the dark trying to reason with myself

Is this my lust or desire that empties another shelf

I can’t reach for good stuff, too proud to accept help

Because  I must have been

All the horrors I’ve seen

The love yous I don’t mean

I must have been but I’m not

Valued lessons you are taught

Can’t miss what I haven’t got

Must Have Been

I must have tried everything
